Jesus! A round like that for a pistol? I'm not even sure ported barrels would help keep a gun like that in your hand. Yikes...

That has got to be a joke. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

That was hilarious! :haha: Thanks EA

But by the end of World War II wild game was becoming too tough for the .357 Magnum. Elk and moose were becoming impervious even to perfectly placed .357" bullets. (Today, of course, we all know that even the smallest deer have become completely immune to .357 Magnum bullets.) Experiments to again redress the balance of killing power were underway in earnest by 1950, and in 1956 the result, the .44 Remington Magnum, was born.
.....

Unfortunately, that happy state of affairs only lasted until the 1970s. By that time elk and moose had begun to shrug off solid hits by .429" (.44 Mag.) bullets. In desperation, some handgun hunters began carrying crystals for protection in the field and storing their .44 Magnum ammunition inside pyramids specially constructed for the purpose. (A secondary benefit of the latter practice came to light when it was discovered that these pyramid shapes also sharpened razor blades.)

The preferred round? 45-70

Magazine articles are like a-holes? (everyone knows the punchline)

That's a great example of why we shouldn't believe magazine writers, just 'cause they're writers. Some know, most don't have a clue.

hmm... we allowed to curse here? I PG-13'd my original type.

Re: New Pistol

POor performance with the early 30-06 was most likley due to poor bullet construction of the available bullets of the time. You wouldn't expect to shoot an elk in the shoulder with a 150 grain bulk remington bullet and get good penetration, while you would with a nosler partition or a barnes x bullet. The old western tool and copperworks bullets were a far cry from whats avaialble today.

Got a chuckle when I miss read the line above the picture - read it below - thought the web site owner had a beef with his staff (it has to be a 'him', I don't know any her's that could handle a gun using that caliber and not land on her backside)
